Hands on Horsemanship

Our programs bring a new level of horsemanship to our clients

Horsemanship Programs

The Riding Patch brings a new level of theory options to our clients.

Our Hands on Horsemanship Program is a learning progression for the rider and is available in individual topics over four modules.

Our team are developing this program to offer you information, knowledge and support to create safe, smart and independent thinking riders. Advanced riders need a strong understanding and practical skills to use in the horse industry.

These modules will build knowledge and skills both on and off a horse.

    Assessment Options

We at The Riding Patch, understand that people learn in many different ways.

We understand that not everyone copes under a 'test' situation and can find it stressful. That is where you, the parent come in. You can help us navigate the best way to get good results and still get through the assessment process required for safety and knowledge.

This is where we can have an assessment session on a topic and use a verbal option, a written, use of colouring, and/or practical. We can do a mix of all if need be.

We can also do these assessments without the rider actually knowing they are under assessment, just using key questions or demonstrations to show competency.

    We want to encourage knowledge.

    Our Assessment Language

    Competent.

Having the necessary ability, knowledge, or skill to do something successfully, efficient and capable.

    Not yet Competent

Means that you have not met the requirements and will be given another opportunity for re-assessment.

    NON-Competent

Non or Not Competent; lacking knowledge or ability; incapable: an incompetent candidate. Characterized by or showing incompetence.

We will work with the client to create competence, there is no failure in this program, just building on the issue topic.

Can we replace a Lesson with an HOH Topic

    Yes!

We endeavour to work this program into replacing riding lessons on those wet or hot weather days where we would normally cancel and run an individual topic to keep your knowledge going forward.

    Already done Horsemanship?

That's ok if you have done horsemanship theory with us or another riding school, we encourage you to participate in this new program.

If you feel you know about a select topic, you can always ask for an assessment instead of going to the topic day. This may not always be possible but we will do our best to accommodate you.

Please note that if you are not up to competency as deemed by our theory instructors, then we can work with the parts you are unsure of and reassess you. We are looking for knowledge, confidence and that you are truly competent in that topic.
